Goodnight Santa: A Holiday Book Inspired Craft

I’m joining in with a few of my friends to bring you a collection of holiday themed books and some inspired crafts and activities.

Goodnight Santa: A Christmas Book Inspired Craft

December is always an exciting time of year, full of joy and wonder for young children.  To capture the wonder of the holidays and Christmas I like to read 'Goodnight Santa' by Michelle Robinson.

Goodnight Santa shares the perspective of Christmas Eve for children and for Santa and his helpers.

The book told through rhyme and covers simple Christmas vocabulary such as: snowman, stocking, mistletoe, ho-ho-ho, Santa, elves, presents, reindeer, gifts, jingling and bells.

The book is set in a winter theme, with snow frost white towns, with sparkling, snowflakes and winter wonderlands.

It is an ideal picture book for young children to project and discuss Christmas Eve, the language of Christmas, revise rhyme and get excited about the advent and magic of Christmas.

I recommend this book for Pre-K to grade two as a read aloud story for parents and teachers.  I love the descriptive vocabulary, rhyme and bold illustrations.

After reading Goodnight Santa, you can have your students complete this craft activity.

Word Up Christmas Tree is a craft and writing activity that you could use with this story or almost any Christmas book.

The craftivity focuses on cutting, pasting and arranging strips as well as the vocabulary used in a book.

  1. Hello Emma, It's great to see you having so much fun with my book! Thank you so much for sharing these ideas here, they're really great. I'm going to share your post on my Facebook page and with the schools I work with. If it helps you any further in the classroom, there are plenty of free activity sheets and audio games on my website. (I find the games are great for getting the kids' fidgets over with before sitting down to read a story!) Thanks again and very best wishes, Michelle
