Super Soapy Slime Play for Summer

I'm passionate about play and arty ideas and this one kind of fits both. 

 I saw this done in a preschool back in the mid-nineties and I never forgot about it. 

Soapy slime is so easy to make and children of all ages will love it in Summer and the cooler months (made warm or cool it down). I also used this version of slime when I was teaching Kindergarten, it was a great first week activity. It would be great for messy play and for hot summer days.

Soapy slime is easy to make and here’s what you need. 

Pure soap flakes, a bucket, hot or boiling water, a wooden spoon, a whisk and some food colouring. 

I have used pure soap flakes and if you can’t find this particular brand, you will probably find pure soap flakes in the laundry aisle. Soap flakes are often use to wash delicates, like wool and also babies clothes. If you can’t find the soap flakes and you are really keen to give this a try, you could always grate a bar of soap.

How to make the soapy slime!

I added approximately a 1:2 ratio; I part soap flakes and 3 parts boiling water into a bucket (the more flakes you use, the thicker it goes.

Stir with a wooden spoon and then whisk the solution for a few minutes until the soap flakes dissolve. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes (the longer you leave it, the thicker it goes). If there are a few lumps then add a bit more hot water and whisk again. I'm sure the children won't mind a few lumps!

Add a few drops of food colouring and stir in.

Use a plastic trough,  big plastic shell or buckets for children to access  the slime. You could also add containers, toys or colanders.

Tip: As you’re making the soap slime, make a separate batch for yourself (without the food colouring). Pour the slime into an open rectangular bucket or container and pop your feet in for a few minutes. Your skin will be super soft!
